“Sooner or later the man who wins, is the man who thinks he can.” — Napoleon Hill https://zooboostory.com/book/what-will-you-be-when-you-grow-up If you think any dream is too big for your child, you are limiting their future before they have even begun to develop the wings to fly. Right now, the slate is blank and the world is their horizon. Encourage and empower your kids to have whatever goals they would like out of their life. When your child shares his/her dreams with you, you realise just how much of a responsibility you have to empower them and encourage them. No matter the age of your child, this conversation is bound to come up where they share what they want to be when they grow up. Research shows that it is important to not laugh or make light of such conversations. This can have a huge impact on children’s confidence, imagination and creativity. In the current uncertain times like these, it’s more important than ever for parents to talk to their kids about the future and help them envision their future success. Whether that means discussing career options, higher education, or what the world might look like when they’re ready to fly the nest – the key is setting bigger goals along with smaller steps to get there. Discover 3 simple steps to inspire and empower your child to dream big! https://zooboostory.com/book/what-will-you-be-when-you-grow-up #1 Start early. Right from an early age, expose your kids to different types of career men and women. This can be as simple as reading books on professions (like the new Zooboo book called ‘What will you be when you grow up?), and as detailed as taking them to career fairs. Expose them to the stories of those great men and women who have achieved their goals like: Bachendri Pal - The first Indian woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest Neil Armstrong - The first human to walk on the moon Barack Obama - First African-American President of the USA Indra Nooyi - Former CEO of PepsiCo https://zooboostory.com/book/what-will-you-be-when-you-grow-up #2 Write it down, act it out If your child shares their dreams with you, no matter how small, silly or childish they may seem to you- do not stop them. This is the first step towards their journey. Help them write it down. You can even create a game of ‘act it out’. Write down different professions – conventional as well as unconventional. Let them pick out a card and act out that profession for you to guess. #3 Equip your child with tools to succeed Encourage them to explore their strengths. Whether they enjoy sports, art, music, cooking, maths, science, reading, or writing – let them engage in whatever their interest lies in. Help them draw up a timetable and practise their hobbies. Teach them the value of resilience. And most importantly, this is the right age to coach them on the importance of hard work, perseverance and dedication. Start early by personalizing their first book full of dreams of the future! Explore 10 professions namely Astronaut, Singer, Vet, Sportsperson, Journalist, Mountaineer, Scientist, Chef, Librarian & Teacher. What will you be when you grow up? Order it here! Introduce your children to different professions Start early with simple books like Zooboo's 'What will you be when you grow up?' book Nothing is impossible if you encourage your kids dreams Order this book in your kids name here https://zooboostory.com/book/what-will-you-be-when-you-grow-up Customize it for your child at Rs. 99 today! 6 Tips to set sustainable ‘Reading Goals for 2022’ with your kids!

Editor

The New Year is a great time for those looking to make a fresh start. It gives us all hope for new beginnings and healthy habits. It is a good idea to let children develop a positive attitude towards reading from an early age. Here are some quick tips to help your kids set sustainable ‘Reading Goals for 2022!’ Working towards reading goals not only improves your child’s literacy but research says that completing goals provides children with a sense of accomplishment and builds their self-esteem. Make a plan/chart: Make it fun start for them by first drawing up a chart/routine to mark off each goal. Tip: Keep space for stars (or rockets or dinosaurs!) for each baby step towards the final goal. source: Just a girl and her blog Start with the basic: I will read X number of books this week Once they start finishing these small goals, you can encourage them for bigger goals like I will read a new author every week. Or I will read X number of books this year. Older children can read the books themselves, while younger kids may need to read with adults or have the books read to them. The goal at younger ages is to familiarize children with books and instill a love of stories and reading. You can try personalized storybooks that feature the child’s name & character throughout the story. These books help engage and entertain young readers, as they feel they are the STAR of the storybook. Order some such books for your kids here. https://zooboostory.com/ Add some twist with interactive reading/role play: I will read X number of books to my sibling/cousin/friend this year. Add in a few evenings of enacting some books, staging a drama or role play with friends. Re-living their storybook characters adds excitement which boosts further reading. @mummas_littlemunchkins To make the goals sustainable through the year, start with small goals & celebrate small victories.Tips for some smaller goals for the younger kids: I will read about a new topic every month I will learn about the authors of the books I read I will learn xx new words from my books every week Attaining a reading goal should be cause for celebration. While you have many possible rewards for reaching reading goals, the most appropriate reward is a book. A personalized book like ‘Birthday’ or ‘Lost Smile’ will be a constant reminder of the child’s achievement, as well as a treasured keepsake. Track these goals Create some Prints to keep track here or Print a Restickable customized calendar here. Stick these in an area that is accessible to your child. Keep tracking the goals to give your kids a practice of conscientiousness.  https://www.zoomin.com/calendars/restickable-calendar-6x8 Join them by setting your own reading goals! Children learn best by what they observe. So join them with your own reading chart or read your book once while they read theirs. Always carry a few books while travelling. These small cues help children develop a life-long friendship with books. Mom2treasure We hope these tips help you raise a budding bookworm in 2022. Help your child become a confident independent reader!

Parents often put in a lot of effort to research which book is right for their child at which age. And rightly so, because an age-appropriate book definitely makes the reading experience a whole lot different. But what about the TYPE of book format? Isn’t it important to gauge the readiness of your child to be an independent reader? The answer is YES it is! Picking the right book format – softcover or hardcover - and transitioning to another can be tricky for some kids. That is precisely why we at Zooboo offer a wide choice in the type of book you’d like for your child. Let us guide you on which Zooboo book format is best suited for your child! Reading WITH parents Recommended: 5.5”x5.5” HARDCOVER When your child is reading along with you, they are probably a little young. The hardbound pages help them gain the confidence to flip a book on their own. And since you’re mostly reading to/with them, the 5.5”x5.5” works perfectly fine at this stage. Starting to read with AND without parents Recommended: 8”x8” HARDCOVER You can gradually transition to the large size book as they will start to want to read parts of the book on their own so the larger font & illustrations will help here. Since you can start leaving them alone with their book, it is important to keep the book in hardcover format. Transitioning from hardcover to softcover Recommended: Upgrade to a ‘waterproof LUSTRE’ finish To make this jump as accident-free as possible, you can upgrade your softcover books to a premium waterproof paper with a lustre finish. This paper quality will provide your child with a lot of sturdiness while they flip pages on their own with or without supervision.  Transition to becoming an independent reader Recommended: 8”x8” SOFTCOVER While you will always continue to read together with your child, you can gradually encourage your child to read books on their own, in their free time. At this stage, you can move to a softcover book BUT we advise a  8”x8” book size. The bigger page size enables kids to move pages freely. You can always opt for the premium lustre page finish for this size as well. Independent readers Recommended: 5.5”x5.5” SOFTCOVER Your independent young reader can now definitely graduate to a softcover book format without any hesitations! The 5.5”x5.5” size is handy, easy to carry anywhere and lightweight enough to make it the perfect travel companion. All Zooboo books have rounded edges for child safety. In general, hardcover books work well for younger kids and for those who love to carry books on-the-go. Softcover books are fine for older kids and for those looking for an inexpensive option! Zooboo recommended size for ALL kids: 8”x8” HARDCOVER. Because afterall, a book in which your child is the HERO of the story should be preserved as a keepsake forever right!? :D @vandita.momandmore

And so here are FIVE activity ideas based on the concepts covered in the 5 new Zooboo storybooks. Enjoy! Idea #1 Book: A1 Summer - this book is all about spending quality time with friends and family and bonding over the simple things in life. Activity: Organize family events once a week or once a month for the special bonding time. How? Recreate some events from the book like: Picnic at the terrace or garden or even living room Story telling competition Drawing/ origami / art & craft competition Organize a carnival games evening with the neighbourhood! Idea #2 Book: Is your cat in the Zoo? - This book is all about a child searching for their lost cat and taking help from different animals in the Zoo Activity: Play the ‘Hot & Cold’ game. How to play? Pick a toy cat/dog to hide in the house. You and your kid take turns to ‘search for it’. While searching, if the searcher is not at all close to the item, the hider says, “You're cold,” but as the searcher gets closer to the hidden item, hider responds, “Getting warmer…” and when they get very close to the item, hider says, “You're hot!” The verbal temperature becomes an indicator in finding the toy. Idea #3 Book: What shape would you be? - This book is all about identifying different shapes that are commonly seen around us Activity: Spot objects in the surroundings. How? Observe your surroundings and take turns to spot shapes in your vicinity – start with 2D shapes and gradually move to 3D shapes. Some examples: Door is rectangle, plate is circle, clock is square – etc. P.S: This is also a great game to play while travelling! Idea #4 Book: Lost Smile - This book is all about a child feeling sad and searching for their smile which is lost. Activity: Create a 'feelings book' for your child to fill in every night How? Encourage your child to draw & write in their feelings journal every day. They can draw/write one line about any 1 strong emotion that they felt through the day. This helps them to understand their feelings in retrospect and ponder over their reactions. Let your child draw and write in their feelings journal Example of an entry in the feelings journal Example of an entry in the feelings journal Idea #5 Book: A Surprise for- this book is all about learning different opposites while exploring a day out with daddy Activity: Play the game ‘Simon says – do the opposite!’ How? Every time Simon says to do something, everyone must do the opposite. Just like in the regular version of Simon Says, players should ignore all commands that don’t begin with the phrase, “Simon Says” and continue doing the action just prior to the directive. With the festive season right around the corner there is always a flurry of excitement in the air. Cleaning the house before Diwali, shopping for new decor, gifts & sweets, planning Diwali get-togethers... it can get overwhelming for even the most adept planner isn’t it? Typically during such times, do you find your kids getting anxious, overactive, irritable or just filled with extra excitement with no outlet? Not to mention the anxiety that some kids may have due to the noise pollution caused by firecrackers! Well, we have put together a few ideas that can help calm your child during the festive chaos. Save & share this to help fellow parents! Stress balls Squeezing a stress ball often relaxes muscle tension and gives fidgety kids something to do. Turn this into a bonding activity by making some stress balls at home together with your kids.  How: Fill up balloons with rice, flour or pulses. Image source: www.onecrazymom.com Discovery Bottles These bottles are a great way to calm newborns, toddlers, older kids as well as adults! All you have to do is take empty plastic bottles and fill them up with any of these options: Glitter & water + oil Colourful pom pom balls Colourful water + baby oil Blue water with sea shells Coloured water with soap for bubbles Different shaped buttons www.messymotherhood.com www.funathomewithkids.com www.teachertypes.com After filling the ingredients seal the bottle cap firmly using glue or tape. Read books with them The best way to make kids calmer is by reading to them. Especially when the story is all about them, kids tend to get immersed into it & forget about the ‘discomfort’. Try personalized storybooks for your kids and watch them get totally hooked to the story. Order your books here. @momknowsmebest @mewithmysonshine @chatterfromamom Quiet Corner Create a thinking corner in your house where your kids can go to spend some quiet time by themselves. Often kids don’t need anything but some space to calm themselves down & feel normal again. Make this corner feel warm & cozy by adding in some storybooks, a blanket, some soft toys & posters. @annareyner @whitneymarie_F Lavender Playdough Lavender induces calmness & sleepiness. Create some lavender infused playdough & keep it ready for use when needed. Use regular flour, warm water, edible oil, salt, purple food colouring & some glitter to make your regular playing dough. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to this & knead it to form soft dough.  www.theartkitblog.com Open-ended art Give your child some paints, newspapers & open-ended material for a relaxing art activity. Spread the newspapers on the floor and lay out the paints. Tie up some twigs, leaves, use stones, pebbles, empty bottles & cans – let them use any material they like as a paint brush. www.kindercare.com www.handsonaswegrow.com Browse through their Photobook together If you have a journey book of your child or a family photobook then bring it out and distract them with pictures of them as a child or happy family times from the past. 10 Tips to make your child love reading!

Editor

Does your child run away from books? Are you looking for ways to making reading time more fun and less boring? Are you tired of extended screen time for your child? If you answered yes to any of these questions then this useful article is exactly what you need, trust us! This week we partnered with the amazing Mom Blogger @Vandita.momandmore who spends dedicated time reading different types of books to her 2.8 year old son Viaan. When it came to helping fellow parents, she was more than happy to share her personal tips on raising a budding bookworm. Here are 10 super useful, realistic, tried & tested tricks penned by her!  “I don't consider myself an expert, just a fellow parent trying her best to inculcate a love for reading in my little guy. Whether my son will continue to love books or not, I don't know! But for now, I'm doing my bit!  Here are my top 10 tips to raise a reader: START EARLY - If possible, start when the child is in the womb. I know not everyone is comfortable with it. So you determine what's early enough for you. I started reading to my son when he was 3 months old. 2. TRY PERSONALIZED STORYBOOKS! - Try personalized books to engage your kid. Reading his name in his storybook was a big excitement factor for my kiddo! I tried Zooboo’s ‘What's behind the door Viaan?’ and he was thrilled to read his name in the storybook. His interest in reading definitely went up after that. 3. CONSISTENT ROUTINE - Schedule reading time in a day - it may be before each bedtime and make this consistent. But don't watch the clock, watch only your child. Watch which parts they laugh at, what they ask for repeats of, which pages they like to linger on. 4. HAVE BOOKS EASILY ACCESSIBLE - Place books in different areas of the house - for eg, a small bookshelf in the dining area, a basket of books on the play mat, some books by the bedside table, and some in the child's closet. The books should be easily accessible to the child without any adult help. 5. READ EVEN WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE AN ACTIVE AUDIENCE - Don't expect little ones to sit through a book with rapt attention each time or even sometimes. I have often read to my son even when he's roaming around the room and playing with something else. But he's still receiving the language input and picking up on my tone, fluency, expression and body language. 6. MAKE IT INTERACTIVE - Have fun with role-playing - try out different accents and voices for characters. Have your children point to pictures and words and repeat them. 7. RE-READ FAVOURITES - It will give kids the opportunity to hear or see something that may have been missed the first time and provides another chance to hear a favourite part 8. CREATE BUZZ AND EXCITEMENT AROUND BOOKS - Gift books to your kids every chance you get. Gift books to other kids on occasions or have them donate a book to someone in need. Involve them in the gift buying, wrapping and giving process. 9. TALK, TALK, TALK! - A child's vocabulary grows through rich conversations. No matter your child's age, narrate what you're doing, talk in full sentences, and sprinkle your conversations with interesting words. 10. BE A READER YOURSELF - Monkey see, monkey do! Model the right behaviour, let the child see you enjoy books. Remember, you get to decide if you make reading aloud taste like medicine or chocolate!” Try a mix of these tips with your own parenting styles to encourage the habit of reading in your kids. Research has shown that personalizing a child’s books makes them more curious to read. Try it out yourself with Zooboo’s books that allow you to customize your child’s name on the cover page and throughout the storybooks! How many of us miss those carefree days spent enjoying the school summer vacations with siblings & cousins? Can you remember at least one memorable trip to your native village? The brand new Zooboo book ‘A1 Summer’ is a heart warming narrative that is all about a summer vacation spent away from devices, internet, pizza & sleepovers! As two siblings try to adjust to the life in a quiet village, they discover that seemingly simple activities can bring a whole lot of joy & fun. Don’t you agree that this is a highly valuable lesson to teach children in the current times? We can promise you that this book will be a SUPER HIT amongst the elders, parents as well the kids of the family! Here are 7 reasons why: Customize it in 4 waysOne of the best parts about this book is that is customizable in FOUR different ways. Yes that’s right! You can add names & characters to reflect all types of sibling relationships: elder sister-younger brother, two sisters, elder brother- younger sister & two brothers! If you’re gifting an only child then you can surely add a cousin or friends' name. 2. Adjusting to change:Kids often need more time than adults to adjust to a change in environment/routine. This book sheds light on how transitions that might seem difficult initially can be overcome with time & patience. 3. Respecting the elders in the family:Kids often don’t realize that they might unintentionally come across as disrespectful, especially to the elders of the family. This important lesson is something we encourage all parents to gently explain to the little ones while reading this book. Persistence & gentle clarifications are the key. 4. Learn new words:This book is filled with a host of new words – action words, descriptive words, adjectives, verbs & so many more language skills for your child to pick up while reading! 5. Life away from devices:A key highlight from this special book is to encourage kids to understand & appreciate a life away from devices. In this day & age, kids all over are compelled to depend on devices whether for education or leisure. A twist in the narrative persuades the young ones to admire the quiet life & simple pleasures of a village life. 6. Helping others:Another social skill that is featured in the book is the good deed of helping others. Whether it is being there for your family when they are upset or helping those less fortunate than us by our skills – this book is filled with an emotional connect about empathy. 7. Delightful illustrations:We can’t put into words how adorable the illustrations are in this book. Don’t take our word for it, check it out yourself while previewing the book on the website! A1 Summer is a great read for all 6-9 year olds, but we have been told that adults can’t seem to put it down either!Aren’t you excited to read about 2 sibling’s summer vacation in the village?
