And so here are FIVE activity ideas based on the concepts covered in the 5 new Zooboo storybooks. Enjoy!
Idea #1
Book: A1 Summer – this book is all about spending quality time with friends and family and bonding over the simple things in life.
Activity: Organize family events once a week or once a month for the special bonding time.
How? Recreate some events from the book like:
- Picnic at the terrace or garden or even living room
- Story telling competition
- Drawing/ origami / art & craft competition
- Organize a carnival games evening with the neighbourhood!
Idea #2
Book: Is your cat in the Zoo? – This book is all about a child searching for their lost cat and taking help from different animals in the Zoo
Activity: Play the ‘Hot & Cold’ game.
How to play?
Pick a toy cat/dog to hide in the house. You and your kid take turns to ‘search for it’. While searching, if the searcher is not at all close to the item, the hider says, “You’re cold,” but as the searcher gets closer to the hidden item, hider responds, “Getting warmer…” and when they get very close to the item, hider says, “You’re hot!” The verbal temperature becomes an indicator in finding the toy.
Idea #3
Book: What shape would you be? – This book is all about identifying different shapes that are commonly seen around us
Activity: Spot objects in the surroundings.
How?
Observe your surroundings and take turns to spot shapes in your vicinity – start with 2D shapes and gradually move to 3D shapes. Some examples:
Door is rectangle, plate is circle, clock is square – etc.
P.S: This is also a great game to play while travelling!
Idea #4
Book: Lost Smile – This book is all about a child feeling sad and searching for their smile which is lost.
Activity: Create a ‘feelings book’ for your child to fill in every night
How?
Encourage your child to draw & write in their feelings journal every day. They can draw/write one line about any 1 strong emotion that they felt through the day. This helps them to understand their feelings in retrospect and ponder over their reactions.
Let your child draw and write in their feelings journal Example of an entry in the feelings journal Example of an entry in the feelings journal
Idea #5
Book: A Surprise for– this book is all about learning different opposites while exploring a day out with daddy
Activity: Play the game ‘Simon says – do the opposite!’
How?
Every time Simon says to do something, everyone must do the opposite. Just like in the regular version of Simon Says, players should ignore all commands that don’t begin with the phrase, “Simon Says” and continue doing the action just prior to the directive.
